Lectionary Cycle B - 2011-12

The liturgical calendar of the Church begins with the First Sunday of Advent and concludes with the Feast of Christ the King. Catholics experience the bible mostly through the Sunday Lectionary. The Scriptural Readings of the Sunday Mass follow a 3 year cycle; during the 3 years the entire New Testament is read as well as most of the important readings of the Old Testament. The intent is that the faithful will receive instruction in the Faith from the Divinely inspired revelation of Holy Scripture.

This Liturgical Year, Cycle B, emphasizes the Gospel of Mark and the Epistles of 1st and 2nd Corinthians, Ephesians, James, and Hebrews 2-10. Also, because of the shortness of the Gospel of Mark, the Gospel of John (the Bread of Life Discourse) is taken up on 5 Sundays of Year B.
